Laconia Motorcycle Week- How to Avoid Accidents and What to Do If You Are In One

This year marks the 92nd Anniversary of Laconia Motorcycle Week, a time when the small City of Laconia (less than 16,000) is visited by more than 300,000 bikers from all over the country, bringing with them lots of excitement, fun… and traffic. Whether you are coming to the Lakes Region to enjoy the events, or live here year round, we offer a few basic reminders to help ensure a safe and relaxing week for everyone:

  1. Obey speed limits & use directional signals.
  2. Check twice before pulling into traffic.
  3. Allow appropriate following distances.
  4. Be cautious of pedestrians on the side of the road and crossing the street.
  5. Always use a designated driver or make other arrangements for safe traveling when consuming alcohol.
  6. Use extra caution when driving or riding at night or in the rain.

Remembering and abiding by these basics safety tips may prevent accidents and potentially save lives.  Unfortunately, despite taking every precaution, accidents do happen. During Bike Week, as with any other time, please remember to follow these steps if you are involved in a vehicular mishap:

  1. See a doctor, and be sure to strictly follow any medical instructions given.
  2. Document everything to the fullest extent possible, including taking pictures of property damage or injuries you sustained.
  3. Contact an attorney as soon as possible.
  4. Do not admit fault or discuss liability with anyone.

Taking these measures will put you in the best position possible to later recover your losses.
Wescott Law hopes that Bike Week 2015 is enjoyable and memorable. However, if something unexpected or unfortunate happens, it is important that you call an attorney as soon as possible to ensure that your rights are protected and your best interests are served going forward. Be it a criminal or civil matter, an experienced New Hampshire attorney can help guide you through the often complex and overwhelming legal process in a style tailored to your individual needs.
