Beyond Bickering- Domestic Violence Warning Signs and Resources

Many people believe that in order to obtain a Domestic Violence Restraining Order that there must be bruises, or punches thrown, but that is not the case. Abuse is about controlling a person completely, and a closed-fist punch is rarely the first form of abuse to occur. Over time, an abuser builds an arsenal of power and control to isolate and victimize.

One major red flag is if you are afraid of your partner. There is no place for fear in a healthy relationship. If you feel your health or safety is in immediate danger, dial 911. To speak with an advocate in your community or to have guidance in formulating a safe exit plan, call the statewide 24/7 DV hotline at 1-866-644-3574.
